elektra release of charlotte gainsbourgs third studio album titled irm. the title is derived from m.r.i, which reflects the medical procedure charlotte had to go through after suffering a head injury in a water skiing accident in 2007. the album is charlottes most personal to date, and is produced by acclaimed grammy nominated artist/multi-instrumentalist beck. what started as a brief recording session between charlotte gainsbourg and beck ended up to be the body of work that is irm. over the course of a year and a half of writing and recording together, becks role grew to encompass all aspects of the creative process. he worked seamlessly with charlotte co writing the lyrics and produced and mixed the recording. f = ma is an hard techno ep, dynamic and pressing both for side a and side b. a two-track ep that was inspired by the physics formula s second law of motion which states that the acceleration of a body is directly proportional and in the same direction of the force acting on it, while it is inversely proportional to its mass . the track on side a, entitled -massa- is a techno track, properly basic, structured on a massive scale, and that is why it was chosen as the track for side a minded for a dance floor set. a piece that starts with decision, full of body and massive , and that is why was named massa. the track on the b side, -accelerazione- is more quite, but another dance track for this great disc. a bit more slender and smooth, with broad- acceleration in a dance floor moment certainly forwarded more than the cervical part of a set, to be spent at the end to throw the disc to the latest beats.

parrish smith s debut of dystopic forbidding sets the tone of this label s impressive first release with a superb stark, acid ridden slab of body music. helena hauff adds to the proceedings with her remix of pankows >das vodkalied< taking no prisoners and using heavy percussion in contrast to a wonderfully tense set of arpeggiations, which all descend into skull crushing pressure. carrying over to the flip side are pankow, pioneers of the italian industrial/ebm scene, with two tracks from their legendary first tape -throw out rite- from 1983. with das vodkalied disembodied vocals are cut up and come from every direction driven by a raw, off-kilter energy and pounding beat. i m food for you cranks up the drive and anxiety to create a killer track based around stark arpeggiation. last of all, perseus traxx provides an acidic stripped down venting of frustrations which he spits out with vehemence.

on jupiter masterdrive the london synth and drum duo further hone their blend of jazz, prog and electronica within the confines of brevity demanded by the 7 format. recorded direct-to-tape over a few heady sessions, these tracks bear the palpably unfolding, organic beauty of improvisation and live recording while conveying ever deeper levels to the pairs musical and artistic vision. the band recorded these pieces in constant experimentation with their tape machine, trying different approaches and techniques for each track this is a small glimpse into the process and a tantalising sample from an expansive body of recordings.

a lot of water has passed under the bridge since the release of etienne jaumet’s night music, dating from october 2009. his hypnotizing music and enchanting live performances put him directly on the map. it’s just him who is in control of his ship. he moves without complexes from his saxophone to his drum machine (his beloved tr 808) while turning knobs modulating synths, and sending his voice through an echo.la visite, etienne’s brand new album, more luminous and jazzy than its predecessor, has been composed and produced within a two month period in the versatile studio. it became a piece of introspection, mentally as well as physically. in the title track, for which flop wrote the text, we hear etienne travelling through the inside of a body, fantastic voyage style.it is always surprising to see a record taking shape. etienne would arrive at the studio without any precise idea in head, approaching his work rather intuitively. he works standing up, which brings a very different energy than being seated behind a computer polishing up every detail. he is in total mastery of his set-up, ready to capture that short-lived moment of true creation. the only use a computer has for him, is to record his experiments - afterwards being mixed by jerome caron (blackjoy).in between night music and la visite, etienne has not been lazy. not only has he done numerous collaborations (amongst others with joakim, richard pinhas, francois & the atlas mountain) and picked up djing, he has also recorded a new zombie zombie album (rituels d’un nouveau monde) with cosmic neman, as well as the soundtrack loubia hamra. and he worked with artist felicie d estienne d orves on the installation satori. at this very moment, etienne and his saxophone are still part of the tour of james holden.
